Finishing & Mounting Options

How a banner is finished determines how it’s mounted. Tell us where it’s going and we’ll specify the right finishing for the installation.

Grommets

Metal-reinforced holes punched around the perimeter every 24"–36" for rope or bungee cord attachment. Standard on most outdoor vinyl banners.

Hemmed Edges

The banner edge is folded over and heat-welded for extra strength around grommet points. Recommended for banners in high-wind or permanent outdoor locations.

Pole Pockets

A sewn pocket along the top and/or bottom edge that accepts a pole or dowel — used for hanging banners in lobbies, gyms, churches, and event spaces.

Hook-and-Loop Tape

Velcro-style fasteners on the back for mounting to fabric walls, pipe-and-drape booths, or retractable frames without hardware.

Who Orders Banners From Us

Birmingham-area businesses use us for grand opening and sale banners — often needing a 3×8 ft outdoor vinyl piece with a 2-day turnaround for a storefront on a busy road. Churches order sanctuary banners and outdoor event signs. Event organizers need step-and-repeat backdrops for photo walls at charity galas and corporate events.

Real estate agents and developers order large construction site mesh banners for fencing — durable enough to stay up for months without tearing in wind. Political campaigns order yard sign packages and rally banners. Schools and universities order gym banners, recruitment displays, and retractable pull-ups for college fairs.

Whatever the application, we need to know three things: where the banner is going, how it’s being mounted, and how long it needs to last. Those three answers determine the substrate, weight, and finishing.

How Banner Printing Works

  1. 1

    Specify Size, Substrate, and Finishing

Tell us the finished dimensions, where the banner is being installed (outdoor fence, lobby wall, trade show booth, stage backdrop), and your mounting method. We'll confirm the right substrate weight and finishing — grommets, hemmed edges, pole pockets, or hook-and-loop — based on your installation.

  2. 2

    Submit Your Artwork

Design at 100–150 DPI at the actual print size. Supply vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) for logos and text so they scale cleanly. We review every file for resolution, color setup, and bleed before printing. If your file needs adjustments, we contact you before the run — not after.

  3. 3

    Print, Finish, and Pick Up

Banners are printed, hemmed or grommetted per your specs, and inspected before release. Most vinyl banner jobs turn around in 1–3 business days. Retractable hardware is packaged with your printed graphic. Local pickup in Homewood; shipping available for out-of-metro customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size vinyl banner should I order?
Banner size depends on viewing distance and the mounting location. A common rule of thumb: 1 inch of letter height per 10 feet of viewing distance. For storefront use at 20-30 feet, 2-3" text is readable. Standard event banners run 2×8 ft or 3×8 ft. Larger venue banners and stage backdrops typically run 4×8 ft to 8×20 ft. Tell us the mounting location and we'll recommend a size that fills the space without looking lost.
What's the difference between 13 oz and 18 oz vinyl?
13 oz vinyl is the standard for most temporary outdoor banners — affordable, prints well, holds up for months in normal conditions. 18 oz vinyl is heavier and more tear-resistant, better suited for permanent or semi-permanent installations, high-wind locations, and any situation where the banner will be removed and reinstalled multiple times. For a one-time event banner, 13 oz is fine. For a banner you plan to use season after season, 18 oz is worth the difference.
Do banners come with grommets and hemmed edges?
By default, most vinyl banners include grommets every 24" along the perimeter. Hemmed edges (where the edge is folded and heat-welded before grommet installation) can be added for extra durability — recommended for permanent outdoor banners and high-wind locations. Pole pockets are available as an alternative to grommets for lobby or gym installations. Specify your mounting method when you request a quote.
What resolution does a banner file need to be?
For large-format printing, design your file at the actual print size at 100–150 DPI (not 300 DPI — that creates unmanageably large files and is unnecessary for banners viewed from more than a few feet). If your design software works in pixels, multiply the finished dimensions in inches by 100 to get pixel dimensions. For a 3×8 ft banner: 300px × 800px at 100 DPI. Vector artwork (logos, text) should be provided in a vector format (AI, EPS, PDF) so it scales without pixelation.
Can you print banners for indoor use?
Yes — many of our banner formats are used indoors. Retractable banners, fabric tension displays, and step-and-repeat backdrops are all indoor products. For vinyl banners used indoors (lobby installations, gymnasium banners, church sanctuary displays), we can print on a lighter substrate and adjust finishing options for the specific mounting method. Indoor banners don't need UV-resistant lamination, which can reduce cost slightly.
